Role Summary
The Director of Operations leads and improves company-wide operations across production, field execution, resource planning, vendor/subcontractor performance, scheduling, customer experience, and operational systems. You'll partner closely with Sales and Production leadership to align capacity with demand, protect margins, and standardize best practices across teams.
This role is measured by: on-time delivery, gross margin performance, throughput/cycle time, client satisfaction, rework reduction, and team execution consistency.
Key Responsibilities

- Standardize SOPs for handoffs (sale production), job kickoff, change orders, closeout, and warranty workflow
Scheduling, Capacity, and Resource Planning
- Create and maintain a predictable scheduling system across crews and subcontractors
- Align labor, materials, and subcontractor capacity with the sales pipeline and start-date commitments
- Improve forecast accuracy and proactively communicate constraints and solutions
Financial & Performance Management
- Protect profitability by monitoring project margins, labor efficiency, material controls, and change order discipline

- Partner with leadership to improve estimating feedback loops and production planning assumptions
Quality, Client Experience, and Risk Management
- Ensure consistent quality control standards and field processes that prevent rework
- Elevate the homeowner experience through predictable communication, clean job sites, and disciplined closeouts
- Maintain compliance with permitting, safety expectations, and documentation standards
People, Vendors, and Subcontractors

- Identify operational gaps and implement scalable solutions as the company grows
Qualifications
- 15+ years of operations leadership experience in residential construction, remodeling, or home improvement (design/build preferred)
- Proven ability to run multi-project operations: scheduling, subcontractor management, quality control, and client experience
- Strong financial acumen: understands margin, labor productivity, job costing, and cost controls
- Process-driven leader who can build SOPs, enforce standards, and improve throughput
- Clear communicator who aligns teams, resolves conflict, and holds a high bar without drama
- Comfortable with technology and job tracking systems (Excel/Sheets, CRM/project management tools, email, mobile)
- Valid driver's license; ability to travel locally to job sites as needed
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary: $140,000 - $200,000 depending on experience, plus performance bonus potential.
This range is designed to be competitive for senior operations leadership in the Greater Boston market, where reported Director of Operations pay commonly centers in the mid-$100Ks and can extend well above $200K depending on scope and incentives.
Additional benefits may include:
- Paid time off and benefits package
- Stable, full-time leadership role with long-term growth runway
